Report from EuroSuperPoker.com at the EPT, Copenhagen
2006

Team Eurosuperpoker welcomes you to the Casino Copenhagen
where the Scandinavian Open was being held on the 19th-22nd
of January. As you can see on the picture it was snowing
and the temperature was below - 8 degrees, but inside
the casino it was smoking hot because of the excitement
at the pokertables.
The starting field of 288 entusiastic pokerplayers
made the buy-in of 30 000 Dkr which gave the tournament
a first prize of more than 2.5 million Dkk (app.
€335,000) and a total prize pool of nearly
8 million Dkk (app. €1 million).
Some big stars appeared such as the great Gus Hansen
who always gives a respectful appearance when sitting
down at the pokertables. But he did not last long in
the tournament as he was out after about 7 hours of
play. To the left of Gus Hansen we could see Joakim
Geigert from Sweden, who had great respect for the poker
Pro after him. Maybe too much! Joakim also had to leave
the EPT the first day.

Joe Hachem, 2005 World Series of Poker Champion,
also went out early the first day. But that did not
stop him from smiling.

The 2003 WSOP champion Chris Moneymaker, at the Pokertable.
He went out in the worst kind of way. In this spectacular
hand Chris Moneymaker picked up pocket kings. He raised
and one person called. The kings were not under much
threat when the flop showed a seven, a two and a six.
Chris bet and was called once again. The former World
Series champion did not know that a set of sixes were
being slow-played. The turn brought another king so
Chris went all in with lots of confidence of winning
the pot with his tripple kings. That confidence was
struck by lightning when the river showed the only out
tripple 6's can get when under fire by tripple kings.
Another 6! Chris Moneymaker where left without chips
and another bad-beat story in the baggage.

One of Denmarks most famous soccer players, Stig
Töfting at the pokertable. It was his turn to go
all in a couple of hours later and time to exit the
tournament.

"Dont take my chips"!!!!!!! The coolest chipguard
we could find!

Here is Karin Lundgren from Sweden who finished at
20th place.
Karin was one of three women who got in the money.
The other two was Xuyen "Bad Girl" Pham and
Anina Gundesen. Anina is from Odense in Denmark and
came to this tourmament through a $13 re-buy satellite.
And she really made an good impression when she made
the highest placed female finisher ever on the EPT.
A respectful sum of 398,131 Dkr for a weekends work.

Cards resting in the break.

Approximatly 2,548,070 Dkr who is waiting for its
new owner.

Erik Jensen
Erik Jensen, who is the Manager of the Copenhagen Casino,
is responsible for this session of the EPT. He said
that everything is going as planned, and he is very
pleased with how much attention poker tournaments like
this attract people to the casino. He told us that the
interest was so huge that the casino arranged a 10 000
Dkr tourney for 120 people. This was a way for those
who could not participate in the EPT to win a little
extra money. The big interest for poker is here to stay
he said, as an example he told us about the Danish Championship
tournament which was held last year where over 700 poker
players signed up.
Do you have plans to expand your poker department
at the casino?
- "No, not at this time, our 3 tables are good
so far."
How much have Gus Hansen's wins meant for the casino?
- "To have a world-class player like him is of
course priceless to us. He means so much to us and he
is always eager to participate in events like this here
in Denmark. "
Back to the Final table!

The first one to go (as you can see above) was Jonas
Bergquist who took home "merely" 25.000€.
Next to leave the table was Shek-Chi Hung.
The action was still on when there was 6 players left
but after a while when Anina was beat for a 6th place
the game slowed down tremendously. It almost felt like
there was one flop every hour and even less when Marcus
Gonsalves left the table. The action o nthe table was
mostly brought by Mads Andersen and Edgar Skjervold
who finally after a long time of play went heads-up.
The heads-up revealed great strengths and weaknesses
in both players but it was finally Mads who evicted
as winner of the EPT Copenhagen event!

Who would have imagined that all it took to win an
EPT main event (except for skill) was a couple of queens.
Is it not your time to join the Poker Revolution and
maybe you can represent EuroSuperPoker.com and win an
EPT,WSOP or WPT tournament?
